Essential Oils and your feet…

Why our feet?  Are they really important?

According to The Alternative Daily, our feet are home to some of the largest pores on our body. It is because these openings are so large that essential oils are able to quickly pass through layers of skin and release their benefits into the body more efficiently that way than, say, if you were to apply them to your palms.  Mayo Clinic reports that studies sponsored by the National Cancer Institute and the National Institutes of Health found that reflexology could “reduce pain and psychological symptoms such as anxiety, depression, and enhance relaxation and sleep,” due to the fact that every one of our nerve linings ends in our footing.  The other areas of the body that can be applied for quick absorption are temples, chest, and stomach. It is very helpful at night to dilute some essential oil on your temples when you need to wind down and have a good night sleep.  Applying essential oils to your chest can help if you have terrible congestion or a bad cough. It really can help clear up your respiratory system and help you breathe easier. Finally, applying essential oils to your stomach can help ease your digestive tract or aid in indigestion.

According to the Essential Life Book, reflexology is the application of pressure to the feet and hands with specific thumb, finger, and hand techniques without the use of oil or lotion.  It is based on a system of zones and reflex areas that reflect an image of the body on the feet and hands with the premise that such work effects a physical change to the body.
